So my birthday weekend came and went and I loved every minute of it. I was hoping for sunshine but we didn’t luck out with the weather. February in Houston is usually pretty chilly but the this year’s rainy gloomy vibes made my staycation even more inviting and cozy. I usually travel for my birthday but this year I decided to stay in town because February was a crazy month for me. I love the Woodlands and I live an hour away so this staycation was the perfect way to stay close to home, unwind, relax and ultimately enjoy my birthday without a care in the world.
We arrived at the Westin in the Woodlands on Friday evening and I was amazed by the beauty of the hotel lobby. It’s so swanky and luxurious with an installation of gold lights that makes the perfect backdrop for photos. It really reminds me of the modern boutique hotels I’ve stayed at while vacationing in Manhattan. I like how small the property is and how beautiful and glamorous the decor in here is.
The checkin process was very smooth and the bellhop showed us up to our room. I love how everyone that we encountered here made our stay even better. They knew us by our name and constantly checked in on us to see if our stay was going as planned. We went up to our room and it was just BEAUTIFUL! The lighting and ambiance is really romantic and there are framed black and white photo’s above the bed that really caught my eye. I love to check out hotel art and this room had several pieces that I really admired. Our room had a small desk area that’s perfect for people who need to catch up on business and it had a cozy little sitting area in front of the window. The view overlooking the Woodlands Waterway was what made this room even more perfect! We overlooked the park and faced the main square where events are held in the evening so it was truly the perfect view at night because the place really lights up!
My favorite part about our stay was that we didn’t really need to leave the hotel too much because we had everything we needed right there in one place. On the first night of our stay we made dinner reservations downstairs at Sorriso Modern Italian Kitchen.
It is a beautiful restaurant that recently opened in the Woodlands and it has authentic Italian cuisine and a huge selection of wine. If you follow along on my Instagram…you already know that I love wine! The restaurant is right on the waterway, so they seated us at a table that gave us a a beautiful view of the outdoor area. The restaurant is very dim at night and has beautiful lighting that gives it a very romantic feel. There is a beautiful bar and several sitting areas but we wanted to be able to enjoy the view so we asked for a corner table in the back.
We overlooked the wine menu several times but thank God that Giorgio the General Manager of Sorriso came by to help us pair the perfect red wine to our dinner selections. We went with a red wine and we chose the buffalo burrata and tempura squash blossoms as our appetizer. These plates were amazing and I love burrata cheese so its always exciting when I find it on the menu. Our dinner plates arrived and I am so glad that I went with my choice because I was amazed at how flavorful my squid ink cavatelli was. The pasta was scrumptious and cooked with cherry tomatoes and basil. The seafood in my plate was a mix of calamari, scallops, mussels and shrimp….if you’re mouth is watering I think now is the time to hit up Open Table and make your dinner reservations because this place gets full really fast. My boyfriend ordered the braised veal ossobuco and it was cooked to perfection! The meat was so delectable and tender and the potatoes were amazing. We were so full after our giant dinner portions but we couldn’t pass up dessert because what is a birthday without something sweet LOL! We decided to order the gelato/sorbet sampler because I love gelato! There were 3 different flavors of each and he loved the sorbet and I fell in love with the mint pistachio gelato.
Sorriso is so amazing that I had to go back another time before leaving! My favorite plates for lunch were the brick oven pizza (we chose the salame piccante pepperoni) the lasagna was simply amazing, and the giant meatball was the perfect appetizer to share. Every single thing on the menu is delicious but please don’t pass up dessert when you visit! I’m still dreaming of that amazing tiramisu! Next time you visit make sure you try it…I promise you that you won’t regret it!
Overall my stay was amazing and time really does fly by fast when you’re having fun! Unfortunately we didn’t get to enjoy the pool and go for a swim because of the weather but we really enjoyed the other amenities the hotel offers. My favorite part about our stay was our fun nights at Como Social Club. It is located on the second floor next to the pool and has a beautiful terrace overlooking the waterway. Be sure to check out that post here.
This hotel is amazing because I love the location of it and how conveniently close it is to all the cool shopping areas in the Woodlands. One of my favorite things about it is the Starbucks in the hotel lobby! I need my daily caffeine fix and what better than a real Starbucks to help you get your day started. It has a sitting area and a cafe where you can eat or work (there are lots of plugs for laptops and electronics). The hotel also has several cool sitting and lounging areas but my favorite place was the library located in the lobby. It has beautiful modern decor with these very stylish comfortable leather couches. You can watch televesion, read a book or even play some games.
I will surely be back when the weather is warmer and in the process of planning a summer staycation because I cannot wait to enjoy these poolside cabanas and the rooftop terrace and pool! Como Social Club is open during the day and you can read more about it here!
My weekend was truly amazing and this will be a birthday that I won’t forget! Thank you Westin The Woodlands for making my stay so cozy, sweet and oh so memorable! A major shout out to Sorriso and all the amazing staff that made my birthday dinner so amazing!
